Dorothea Lange (American, 1895–1965) is one of the few female photographers whose name is widely known. She is most recognized for her social documentary work during the Great Depression of the 1930s. As is the case with many well-known artists, her talent is often associated with one image. In her case, it is Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California. This exhibition seeks to present a broader picture of her accomplishments in photography, and includes work ranging across Lange's career from the 1920s to the 1960s. The selection is drawn primarily from the Getty's permanent collection and features a number of new acquisitions.
