While I am new at the teaching game and share your negative view of
standardized testing, fellow teachers advise of the previous educational
philosophy which had the "feel good", outcome oriented blather as its guiding
principle. We are surely underpaid and poorly managed, but better to have
some attention paid to educational problems than none. The governor has given
education more than just lip service here in Texas... and, although it is far
from optimized, it hardly portends nationwide standardized testing. It isn't
